Direct connection via patch cord Ethernet
You can connect two Macs directly to one another through an Ethernet connection. To do this, you may have to use patch cords with intersecting pairs of Ethernet. Once connected, go to the Network settings window of each one, select the Ethernet connection and assign the IP addresses manually. The first three segments should be the same, and the last - individual. For example, you could use the IP addresses 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.102.
Direct Wi-Fi connection
To connect two Macs when there is no wireless router or an available access point, you can use Wi-Fi. To do this, make one of Mac act as an access point. Make sure Wi-Fi works on both Macs. On one Mac, go to the Network settings network window and in the context menu Network name select Create network. In the appeared parameter area, enter the network name. If you want to require a password, select the appropriate command in the Security menu and then enter it. You can also select a Wi-Fi channel using the Channel context menu, but this is rarely necessary only if the signal is too weak. To launch this computer-to-computer wireless network, click the Create button.
Other Macs will be able to connect to this Mac, like any wireless router or access point. Select it in the list of wireless networks in the Wi-Fi menu or in the context menu Network name in the Network settings window.
Computer-to-computer Wi-Fi networks are listed in the Devices section of the Wi-Fi menu and the context menu Network Name of the Network Settings window. This notifies the user that he is not connecting to the router, but to another computer, which will help to avoid mistaken connection to the computer, posing as a wireless router, like in a cafe or airport. Such fake networks are often used by data thieves to intercept passwords.
Direct bluetooth connection
If both Macs have Bluetooth, you can use it to establish a direct connection. First, on one of the Macs, check the Discovery checkbox is possible in the Bluetooth system settings window, then check the Bluetooth Sharing checkbox in the Sharing System Settings window.
On the second Mac, go to the Bluetooth system settings window and click on the button with the “+” icon to find a Bluetooth device (if necessary, select Any device as the device type). When the second Mac finds the first one, select the name of the first Mac in the list of devices and click the Continue button. You will be asked to provide a connection code: enter any number and press Return.
On the nerve Mac a dialog box will appear asking you to enter the same number that you entered on the second Mac. Do this and press Return. You will receive a connection confirmation and can click on the Exit button to exit the Bluetooth setting.
